Welcome to the new OpenFlightMaps website
Welcome to our new website
We are pleased to introduce the completely redesigned OpenFlightMaps website. The new site has been rebuilt from the ground up using the Hugo static site generator, allowing us to provide a faster, more reliable and easier to maintain platform for the entire OFM community.
The previous website served the project well for many years, but the increasing amount of documentation, data downloads and project information made a modern infrastructure necessary. By switching to Hugo, we now benefit from a simplified publishing workflow and a modern architecture that will support the continued growth of the project.
The main goals of the new website are:
- Faster loading times thanks to static site generation
- Improved reliability without complex server-side components
- Simplified maintenance for contributors maintaining the website
- Better structure for documentation and downloads
- Modernized design and layout
Why Hugo?
Hugo is a widely used static site generator known for its exceptional speed and flexibility. Pages are pre-generated during the build process, which means the final website consists purely of static files. This approach significantly reduces complexity and improves performance compared to traditional content management systems.
For the OpenFlightMaps project this has several advantages. The website can now be version-controlled together with other project components, changes can be reviewed more easily, and updates can be deployed quickly and safely.
Another important benefit is that contributors can work with simple text-based content formats. This makes it easier for technically oriented contributors to add or improve documentation without needing to learn a complex content management interface.
Looking ahead
The new website provides a solid foundation for future improvements. Over the coming months we plan to further expand the documentation, improve navigation, and provide clearer access to downloads and project resources.
As always, the OpenFlightMaps project depends on the contributions of the community. We hope that the new platform will make it easier for contributors to participate and help us continue improving the quality and availability of open aeronautical chart data.
We hope you enjoy the new website.
